E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Chestnut Run Plaza
Executive Offices
Wilmington, DE
An inviting entrance atrium and soft-spoken facade of granite, glass, and brick was designed for the world headquarters of a major division – a Fortune 500 company in its own right – of the DuPont Company. The 240,000 square-foot complex gently defers to the expansive meadowlands of its immediate surroundings. The project required intensive programming, space planning, and interior and architectural design processes, with the resulting four-building complex being designed, constructed, and occupied a mere 16 months after the initial go-ahead.
H2L2 relied on cost-effective construction methods and a distinctive architectural design to imbue Chestnut Run Plaza with its own persona. Additionally, the firm established a suitable setting for future buildings on the site.
In the interior, flexibility and quality were top priorities in the design of this new executive space. A soft color palette, reflective of the natural setting, unites the diverse functions and departments into a cohesive whole.
The premium executive complex was further enhanced by the provision of high-tech computer networks, an automated energy-monitoring system, and conference facilities fully equipped for computer-based presentations.
